Jesus is the only one who's worthy. The man of men. What we hope to be, what we get inspired by. Everything we look up to in these heroes, sigma or not, is just a slice of His greatness as a man. Great Article, brother
Hey bro, you’re so damn right, I’m a young male growing up, and I often find me and my friends indulging in these stories and movies, resonating with these characters, you’re so damn right, thanks for shedding some light on this.🙌
Yeah even though I ain’t Christian, I respect Jesus very much, these guys give lonely men a sort of place to confide in, but it doesn’t help us, no, only God does that
You thoughtfully highlighted a major factor of the painful loneliness epidemic “And men accept this proposition, finding in p0rn and casual sex at least a momentary distraction from the longings of their heart.” This distraction is one of the primary factors they may never fulfil their hearts desires. There is also an epidemic of broken women who have been betrayed by their partners use of p0rn. Men need to remember Matthew 5 and first change for Jesus who will give them a new direction and strength which will set them up to find not just the longing they desire through a new life with Christ but also a Godly woman to love them the way the Church loves Christ. Amen!
I always thought about these concepts but were never able to articulate it. Thank you so much, especially for the last part, every man (and women also!) need to hear it.
Continue to ride my friend, you're doing great. Pax et bonum!
The way you ended this article was spot on. Jesus is the answer, and the more men, women, boys, and girls can see that, the better off we'll all be, regardless what "kind" of person anyone is.
Very relatable article. I found myself engrossed in characters like this while in a nihilistic stage of my life about 5 years ago. Praise God I was able to dive deeper into the meaninglessness looking for solid ground, and eventually land on Jesus. I still relate to these characters, but in a more empathetic way, knowing that there are many guys out there still longing for something deeper.
My process was a very similar one. It's amazing how the search for truth eventually leads to Jesus. Thank you for reading the article and I'm glad you enjoyed it brother!
Yeah I get what you mean, but "Sigma" in this context refers to those characters that have become a meme online and that get a massive "literally me" response. The original definition of the term is not as relevant for the purposes of this article as the cultural meaning of the characters. In the online world, all of those characters are called "sigma" characters, which is why I grouped them all as such.
I don't know what "SSH" means. And I'm sure the term "sigma" isn't officially defined the way you are describing, in which case the cultural connotation matters greatly. And the cultural connotation is the one described in this article. Men online refer to these characters as "Sigma" characters. Your definition is as good as mine, and as a term that is not official and rather subjective, there is no "misuse", especially since, as I explained, in the cultural conversation, Sigma does refer to the characters I'm describing. I genuinely do not think this discussion is relevant to the point of the article.
SSH = socio-sexual hierarchy. It’s the framework/tool Vox Day coined to describe the hierarchies of men. Sigma is one of “types/ positions” of men in the hierarchy. Vox originally, officially defined the term that so many are misusing including you. It does have a definition, the definition being more important than the term itself. The SSH is a tool to be used to understand men’s roles in every hierarchy. Which is why muddying the waters misusing the terms is a detriment to those trying to understand the hierarchies they’re in.
I get your point. But “vox day”’s definition is as good as the next person. I have seen other definitions. Who’s to say who came up with the term first? You saw it for the first time presented by vox day, I saw it defined differently elsewhere, and someone else saw it elsewhere. Internet terms like this one go around and change their meaning with time and as they become more popular. Whatever “vox day”’s use for the term “Sigma” is is not the official definition. How do you know they were the first ones to use it? These meme terms don’t have just one specific, static meaning. “Vox day” is no authority to define what Sigma means. Just like I’m not and no one else who’s just someone on the internet is. All I’m doing is basing myself on the current cultural interpretation of “sigma” to describe a set of characters that young men feel related to. It’s really NOT that important if it doesn’t fit “vox’s day” definition. I never claim to be the one defining what Sigma is, do I?
It’s just a word int he title. And even if you were right, and Vox day is the owner of that word as it relates to the SSH, I’m coining the term “Sigma character”, not the term “sigma”, and because this is the internet and nobody is a real authority (even less so “vox day” and myself), then Sigma character means what I’m saying it means. My article has nothing to do with SSH, which means the term is used in a completely separate category. Would you tell someone claiming that “Sigma” is the eighteenth letter in the greek alphabet that they are muddying the term because some random guy on the internet assigned it another meaning?
Would you tell a cook that calls his new recipe “sigma pancakes” that he’s misusing the term because a random personality online used it differently to describe a position in a SSH?
Different categories warrant the use of the word differently, and the category I’m talking about is not SSH. It’s the meme world. Do you understand the difference?
Everyone understood the article because the term was used properly, because there is no improper way to use a term that is a meme term online.
It’s really not that deep or important man. The article has a more important point.
I appreciate you reading but I’m done debating this meaningless issue, just remember that it’s the internet and there’s no way of knowing if vox day is the one who said it first. It’s just the first time YOU saw it. It’s highly likely that it was used before, with different meanings. I’m certain you haven’t read every blog and ever comments section in the history of the internet to find out who said “sigma” for the first time.
God bless man. Really, try distilling the point of the article and not get caught up in such nonsense.
Vox has been writing about the SSH and sigmas since 2010. He started this whole thing. You’re misguiding your readers who look to you for leadership. Best of luck to them.
The definition is important because people can be talking about two completely different things and not realize it. Men read this article and think, "I'm a misunderstood loser; I must be a sigma!" and find articles meant for men who fit into the real category of sigma, thinking any advice therein would be helpful to them, and find that it has detrimental effects on their lives.
Jesus is the only one who's worthy. The man of men. What we hope to be, what we get inspired by. Everything we look up to in these heroes, sigma or not, is just a slice of His greatness as a man. Great Article, brother
The most masculine man in history. Glad you enjoyed the article Pedro, God bless you!
"Human stupidity is limitless." Yes.
"The point is that most trends are fleeting, transitory, meaningless." Yes and yes. 👍💪😎

Wow this article really spoke to me. You've articulated what I could not.
Glad you liked it brother. Thanks for reading, God bless you!

Thanks for reading brother, I feel you! It's good to always remember not to use them as role models, but turn to Christ instead

Perfectly said! P0rn really is a massive epidemic, it's a sad sad thing how many young men fall victims to it.
Just, Wowo!
Glad you liked the article brother!
Wow, this is so well written. How did you learn to write so well?
Glad you liked it man! Just practice honestly. Still a long way to go.

Absolutely right brother. Only one man we should try and imitate and follow, and that is Christ

A lot of those examples aren’t sigmas. A lot of folks are confused about what a sigma is or originally described by Vox Day who created the term.

It is relevant. Misusing the term or not addressing its misuse muddies the waters for guys trying to learn about the concepts of the SSH.
