Paralysis by analysis. Many young men have this condition today, especially Catholic young men. The Church, somewhere along the way to becoming the “Church of nice”lost its manhood. Time to reclaim it. Great article.
I'm a very long-term over thinker and have abused social networking for almost 3 decades now. Since the Internet's widespread adoption in the 80s and 90s. I'm tired. Really tired. I've tried to read the tea-leaves in order to understand my world around me through this effort and protect my family and myself in the process. The list of threats keeps growing. It's impossible to analyse and organize and prioritize it all. But also, tbh, I've tried to avoid being seen for who I am, a garden variety man who struggles with his personal demons, some of which are family of origin, but much more my chosen reactions to it all. I'm disenfranchised and not very motivated or productive. What do you think? Overthinker much? ;-) My head is full of useless "facts", which I couldn't even articulate anymore. Burned out is an understatement. I'm approaching retirement (which I don't feel I have adequately deserved) and recently re-upped my prayer life which is helping a great deal.
Question that came up after reading another Substack article:
If I let go and let God, do "they" win? This other article suggested that the endless stream of information, true and false, has a hidden purpose. The "controllers of this world," George Carlin, are intending that we will become overwhelmed and demoralized and become incapable of resisting their plans.
I wish people would stop saying 'overthinking'. The reality is we live in a time where people are getting statistically dumber, and I blame memes like 'overthinking' for that. We need to think more, not less! What you're referring to is 'anxious thinking' not 'overthinking'. Anxious thinking comes from the desire to control outcomes that cannot be controlled by thinking. This mind numbing, ruminating, squeamishness of soul that holds hostage rather than facilitates action, is what causes this anxious paralysis.
What we need is directed thought about what we can control, about how we can change our perspective, about how we can slow down enough to have insight.
Call the thinking used to control uncontrollable outcomes, 'anxious thinking'.... Because that's what it is.
There is a great scene from season 1 of Master of None about the analysis paralysis that has crippled people in the information age. It's a silly example, where to find best tacos, but it's spot on. It's not in this clip but I think they get there and the truck is out of the type of taco they went there for or something and it's a waste of time anyway.
I walk between two religions! My (non legal "wife"- just a mutual agreement that either can walk away from) is Buddhist, and I'm some version of a RC who no longer believes we have a real pope! I prefer humor that always bears some satire, irony, and exaggerations! I view "legal" marriage in the USA as a terminal state of Slavery, where the male can be jailed for "child support", even when the children have not been adopted or sired by the husband!!!! Even "sex" is no longer a guarantee! She get's at least half your shit, even when she walks, or is a "cheater". Prenups are a fallacy like "Grims Fairy tales"! By the way, a kid can remain on one's health insurance until their 26th birthday!!!! WTF thinks any of this is GOOD???? "I'm waiting???" "Crickets?" WTF wrote these rules???? I DIDN"T VOTE FOR THIS SHIT!!!!!
I take some language used to be foolish, but the main underlying thought I agree with.
Young people in general- do something. Do not be frozen with over analysis. Do the next thing, be faithful to the lord, and content whatever comes. It is a challenge to us all.

Very good.

Your thoughts?
