Why Most Men Will Never Be Spiritually Strong
And how to escape this trap.
Ever since coming back to Christ, I’ve been observing closely the behavior of Christians around me, I’ve gotten into multiple fruitful and interesting discussions with friends and priests, and I’ve been trying to understand, through my observations and discussions, why it is that there exists in the body of believers such a widespread lack of spiritual fortitude.
A Great Deception
This post is not an attempt to pridefully claim I’m better than anyone. I’m not exempt from this generalized lack of spiritual fortitude. I think this is a common problem in the Church, not just something minor that only a few individuals struggle with. It’s a crisis of faith and weakness, fueled, in my opinion, by one fundamental misunderstanding about the way we should approach our vocation as Christians.
I’ve seen both members of the clergy and laymen fall for this lie, and the consequences of this great deception is that we’ve gotten into a sort of “comfortable faith” that slowly but surely erodes our spiritual fortitude and leads us towards perdition.
Most men are not spiritually strong —and won’t ever be, unless they decide to change their mindset completely—, for this one reason:
