How The Dominoes Fall
On the perfect flow of life.
I don’t know man, I just feel like I’m never truly here. My head is constantly in another place, in another time. Sometimes it’s the past, sometimes it’s the future, and sometimes it’s just a random imagined scenario. But I’m never here, now…
I just feel my life is passing by so quickly and I’m missing the whole thing because I’m always distracted and thinking about where I should be, instead of noticing where I am. What’s ironic is that where I am is amazing. I used to dream of a life like this. Now that I’m here, my mind is thinking about the next stage, never stopping to appreciate what I already have and just, you know, live.
A lifetime spent ignoring the present. Seeing a future no one promised you. Your mind filled with dreams and hopes for the years you have left.
Careful now.
It’s wise to think about the future, make plans and strategize. It’s smart to think about the life you want to live. But the ideal is a mirage, always out of reach. If you let yourself be consumed by thoughts of a future life, you won’t experience fully the present one you have. It’s a balancing act, between letting your ambitions and your innate drive plot and plan your way towards something better, and being able to shut them up when it’s time to look your woman in the eyes and listen to her. If your mind is set on the future, you’ll be of no service to the people you love here, now. They need your presence, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too. You’ll be in a constant rush and slowly be driven to an anxious madness. The only certainty of life is this very moment, this single instant of awareness. Everything else is either gone or not at all guaranteed, for you could leave this world more quickly than you think.
To regain control over your own mind requires humble submission to a higher plan. If you believe yourself to be the ultimate master of your circumstances, it’s only natural to be led towards this disconnection from the present. Because wherever you are, whatever you have, won’t feel like enough. Every second you will look at those who have it “better”, and let your mind be consumed by a dark sense of inadequacy, one that makes it impossible to be satisfied. Some might say this is a blessing, for it will drive you forward in matters of the world, towards more success, a better career, a bigger house, and so on. It can definitely be something that helps you attain success in the world. But it comes at the expense of a life lived in a rush. And a rushed life is an ungrateful one. A rushed life removes all color and sweetness from this gift we’ve been given.
You need to savor every second with full intensity, you have to be able to switch off the plotting, dreaming, and planning so you can enjoy the beautiful silence of just being.
The life you’re living can be the perfection you are looking for, if you simply stop for a second and open your eyes. When you see, truly see, how the pieces of your past worked to build this perfect present, gratitude will overflow you, joy will be your default, and you will see how the sun shines just a little bit brighter than it used to. You’ll find enjoyment in the simple things you have taken for granted: a conversation with an old friend, the mighty satisfaction of pushing iron, the sweet peace of prayer, the incredible beauty of the eyes of your woman, and the magnificence of a simple meal.
When you see that your life is perfect by design, as it fits into God’s overarching plan, you will find a weapon to combat anxiety within you: the certainty that wherever you are is precisely where you’re supposed to be, and that nothing else would be better, as where you are is perfect already. You will calm the storm within your mind only when you’re able to think about the future without letting it distract you from the present, and you achieve that by making faith the rock on which you stand.
There’s an unbroken chain of events that brought you to where you are, starting not with you, nor with your parents, but with God himself, at the moment of creation. That first domino set in motion a plan that brought you here, to this exact moment. That first event caused a neverending line of dominoes to start falling, one after the other, creating a perfect picture that we will never see until the very end of time, until all of them have fallen and built the image they were designed to. From childhood, to boyhood, to adolescence, to adulthood, to wherever you might now be, you did some things and refrained from doing others, you thought some thoughts and forgot to think others, you spoke some words and other times chose to keep quiet, and every single little detail of the life you have lived so far has been a piece that fits perfectly into a massively complex puzzle, designed by no other than our all powerful Creator.
Take a second to breathe in the air of the present and realize how blessed you are to be alive right here and now. Look around you and see how much you already have, how amazing your life is and let yourself be overwhelmed by the certainty of an even better future.
Keep a heart full of faith and a soul full of fire, your gaze set upon The Lord, and you’ll see you can choose joy, gratitude, and fulfillment right here, right now.

I had a moment with God recently. Until then, I had trouble saying that word. Ive had strong faith for years, but to me, the word God came with too many connotations. As I was looking at the mountains giving thanks in the early morning that day, extremely present, I uttered the word God. I immediately felt a warming presence. It was during a challenging time and I felt fully supported. My fears and anxiety were wiped away. Faith affirmed more than ever.
Perfect timing for me to read this post
