Ditch Your Deodorant
Commercial deodorants are terrible. Use this instead.
The Problem With Commercial Deodorants
At the beginning of this year I mentioned in another article how I had made a resolution to invest in my health during this year, not only by returning to a rigorous training routine and fixing my nutrition, but also by switching all of those harmful cosmetic products that we’ve become so dependent on for natural alternatives.
One of the first things I did was to try and find an alternative for modern deodorants, which almost always contain aluminum, which has been proven to be toxic for humans1 —possibly even carcinogenic2—, harmful parabens3 and a wide variety of other synthetic and dangerous chemical compounds.
Finding an alternative was not so easy, as most of those that I found were either aluminum-free but still full of other toxic compounds, or way too “natural”, to the point that they didn’t work as deodorants at all.
It took a while, but eventually, thanks to the wonders of social media networking, I came across Robert, who’s a follower of this blog and the owner of Royal Tallow, a brand of natural products that uses natural ingredients and avoids harmful chemicals altogether. After seeing the reviews on their website, it seemed like I had found the absolute best natural deodorant available. So I decided to try it out.
What Is Royal Tallow’s Deodorant Made Of?
Like I mentioned, one of the main things that convinced me to try this deodorant out —aside from all the excellent reviews I saw on their website—, was the fact that it wasn’t just an “aluminum-free” product containing a bunch of other chemicals, but a truly natural alternative composed of only things that we know are not just “not harmful”, but actively beneficial for overall health:
Grass Fed and Finished pastured raised Tallow
Organic Arrowroot Powder
Organic Unrefined Cold Pressed Coconut Oil
Magnesium Hydroxide
And USA Farm Beeswax
+ Essential oils for the scented variants
I’ll admit I was a bit skeptical at first, because all the natural products I’d used before simply didn’t work at all as deodorants. They might have been safe to use, but they didn’t do their job. This one is completely different and actually does work in preventing bad odors.
My Experience With Shield Deodorant and Some Benefits
I’m a very active man: I go to the gym, train Jiu-Jitsu, walk a lot, and just move around almost daily. Since I learned how harmful commercial deodorants are I’ve tried all the alternatives: alum stone, commercial “natural” deodorants, and the lot. None of them have held up whenever I go train or have a particularly active day.
Shield Deodorant has held up amazingly well, even when I sweat a lot at the gym or have an outdoor active day. I wanted to make sure I tried it for a few days before I felt comfortable recommending it, and after doing so, I’m very much satisfied with the quality of the product and I can proudly say it has my full endorsement.
If you are at all interested in getting rid of those commercial deodorants that are incredibly harmful to your health in the long term, I higly recommend you give Shield Deodorant a try.
The quality of their products is amazing, you can try just one bar to see if you like it, and their customer service is excellent. Not only that, but they offer a lifetime satisfaction guarantee, so you can try their products without any risk at all. Robert, the owner, is also a great guy and I can personally vouch for him and his brand: their practices, goals, and values are as good as they get, and they’re a brand I’m proud to stand behind.

I'm allergic to most all "big deodorant" products, and have tried many natural substitutes over the years (Native, Schmidts, etc.). They all smelled fine and worked well, but every single one also ruined white shirts. I have yet to find a natural one that doesn't stain. Have tried everything to get the yellowish stains out, and nothing works. Curious if tallow-based ones have the same issue?
Do you use unscented?
