Many of you have asked for book recommendations on developing masculinity rooted in the Christian faith, so I put together a list of 10 personal favorites. These books—some well-known, others more obscure—have helped me grow as a man and a leader, and I believe they'll give you a strong foundation for becoming the kind of masculine man Christ calls you to be.

  1. Learning the Virtues that Lead you to God, by Romano Guardini

    We are starting with a book I purchased a few weeks ago at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC. I had read other books by Guardini—who was, no less, the mentor of Joseph Ratzinger before he became Pope—, and I liked his style, so as soon as I saw this one I decided to get it. This book provides a clear description of the virtues we should cultivate, and specific, practical strategies to start living by them in our daily walk.

  2. Spiritual Combat, by Dom Lorenzo Scupoli

    Dom Lorenzo was a 16th century priest, and in this book he reminds us of the fact that spiritual life is a constant battle against sin, temptation, and the forces of evil and death. For us, men living in a twisted time, it serves as a practical handbook to help us approach our spiritual life courageously and boldly.
